WAS THIS FOR REAL OR YET ANOTHER DIVERSION?

While I am also happy about the successful Werchowna Rada voting on the creation of an independent Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Court, I find the surprisingly high parliamentary support for this law suspicious, against the background of the history of this parliament, i.e. of the modus of its election and of its previous voting behavior.
A conspirological interpretation of the unexpectedly large support for the court among Ukraine’s MPs would be that they know more about the context of the adoption of this law than we know. Were collective wisdom, care for Ukraine’s future, and patriotic feelings of responsibility really sufficient to overcome the fear of negative repercussions once the court starts working, and of the well-known collective action problem in promoting social change?
In the worst case, this voting involved a secret unwritten protocol that includes certain qualifications or/and compensations to the benefit of corrupt MPs. In such a scenario, such a covert accompanying deal could reduce or even nullify the gains of this, by itself, important step in the right direction.
But maybe I have become too wary over the years here in Ukraine….
