NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION WORLD-WIDE?
For all those who think that Ukraine, Crimea and Russia are far away countries:
In 1994, the US, Britain and Russia officially announced, in the so-called Budapest Memorandum, that they are guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons. Back then, Ukraine had the world’s third largest nuclear weapons arsenal – larger than that of China, Britain and France combined.
If next week this guarantee becomes null and void, few new or aspiring nuclear powers will let themselves be persuaded to give away their nuclear weapons. Iran, Pakistan, North Korea…: Why should they ever give up their atomic bombs or weapons programs?
Ukraine’s example will teach them a lesson: Just in case, get and keep the bomb! Any memoranda, treaties, agreements… that one may get in exchange for not building or purchasing weapons…
